Expansion of Cyber Crime Units in Jharkhand: A New Milestone in Digital Policing”

In an effort to combat the rising cases of cybercrime, the state of Jharkhand is set to establish cybercrime police stations in eight districts. These districts include Bokaro, Ramgarh, Chaibasa, Ranchi, Latehar, Hazaribagh, Dumka, and Saraikela. This initiative comes in response to the increasing instances of cybercrimes and the need for a specialized unit to address them effectively.(Expansion of Cyber Crime Units)

Prior to this expansion, Jharkhand already had operational cybercrime police stations in Jamtara, Deoghar, Giridih, Dhanbad, Jamshedpur, and Palamu. The proposal for establishing cybercrime units in additional districts received approval following a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Sukhdev Singh. Under this plan, the Superintendent of Police (SP) in each district will have the authority to appoint police inspectors as responsible officers for the cybercrime unit.

The appointed police inspectors will be tasked with handling cybercrime cases and conducting additional investigations as required. However, any decision to promote an inspector to the rank of Superintendent of Police will require prior approval from the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG). The proposal also specifies that officers promoted through this paper-based process will hold temporary positions, without additional financial benefits. Moreover, their promotion will not affect the seniority list of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)-rank officers.

The establishment of these cybercrime units reflects the state’s commitment to combating digital offenses effectively and ensuring the safety and security of its residents. It is expected that with specialized units in place, Jharkhand will be better equipped to address the challenges posed by cybercrimes in the modern age.
