Kalpana Soren Takes Oath as Jharkhand MLA after Defeating Dilip Verma

June 10, Kalpana Soren will be sworn in as a member of the Jharkhand Assembly. Kalpana Soren, the wife of Chief Minister Hemant Soren and the newly elected MLA from Gandey, will take her oath in the Speaker’s chamber of the Jharkhand Assembly. Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato will administer the oath.

Kalpana Soren Defeats BJP’s Dilip Verma

In the Gandey Assembly by-election held alongside the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Kalpana Soren ran as the joint candidate of the I.N.D.I.A. alliance on a Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) ticket. She defeated her closest rival, Dilip Kumar Verma of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), by a margin of 27,149 votes.

Eleven Candidates Contested in Gandey By-Election

The Gandey Assembly by-election saw a total of 11 candidates, including Kalpana Soren and Dilip Kumar Verma. Kalpana Soren emerged victorious with the highest number of votes, receiving 109,827 votes. Her rival, Dilip Kumar Verma of the BJP, secured 82,678 votes. Independent candidate Arjun Baitha finished third with 6,960 votes.
