Candidates who have successfully cleared the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) or the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) from neighboring states are now eligible for teaching positions. This development comes following the directives issued by the Jharkhand High Court.

Incorporation of Court’s Directives

In accordance with the orders of the Jharkhand High Court, candidates who were previously excluded from the Assistant Teacher Appointment Competitive Examination will now be considered. Moreover, this decision extends to the contractual appointment of teachers in the state’s residential schools.

Mandatory JTET Requirement

Candidates appointed to teaching positions must pass the Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test (JTET) within three years of their appointment, as stipulated by the Right to Education Act, 2009. Previously, eligibility for appointment in residential schools required clearance of JTET alongside other qualifications. Now, candidates who have cleared CTET or TET from neighboring states can also be appointed, provided they pass JTET within the stipulated three-year period.

Contingency Measures

If the state government fails to conduct the JTET within the specified timeframe, the eligibility condition for teacher appointments will not be enforced. Additionally, teachers will be provided with a three-month preparation period for JTET.

Contractual Appointments in Residential Schools

Appointments in Kasturba Gandhi Residential Schools, Jharkhand Residential Girls’ Schools, and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Residential Schools are contractual for classes six to eight. Similarly, appointments for classes one to eight in Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Residential Schools are also contractual.

Implementation of Court’s Directive

On December 20, 2023, the Jharkhand High Court directed the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission to incorporate candidates who have cleared CTET, TET, or equivalent examinations from neighboring states in the Assistant Teacher Appointment Competitive Examination. This directive has been duly implemented by the commission.
