Ranchi is set to be home to Eastern India’s largest honey testing laboratory. The inauguration of this state-of-the-art international-level laboratory will take place on Thursday at 3:00 pm by Union Minister of Agriculture and Tribal Affairs, Arjun Munda. This laboratory will be established within the premises of the National Agricultural Higher Processing Institute (Lake Research Institute).
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, a ‘honey revolution’ is on the horizon in Eastern India. This initiative aims to make this region a ‘Honey Hub,’ providing domestic honey producers with expanded opportunities in both domestic and export markets. This is expected to elevate the standard of living for thousands of farmers.
The Central Ministry stated that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central government has always prioritized agriculture, related sectors, and farmers. In line with this, several unique varieties of honey from Jharkhand and surrounding states such as Bihar, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and Odisha are being granted international recognition. This approval has been given for honey testing laboratories and other projects under the initiative led by Central Minister Mr. Munda.
A large number of farmers and beekeepers will be part of the program. On this occasion, an Integrated Beekeeping Development Center and gifts for beekeeping and bamboo development projects will also be provided. Various institutions including the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission and Agriculture Science Centers in Khunti, Ranchi, Gumla, Simdega, and Saraikela among others are actively participating in this initiative.
