Ranchi is set to witness the establishment of yet another New Medical College, this time in the Nagri block. Following directives from the Health Department, the Deputy Commissioner of Ranchi has earmarked a 20-acre plot for this purpose.
The Health Department has also given its approval for the establishment of the medical college on this land.
Transfer of Land Awaited for Inauguration
The department has initiated the transfer of this land and has sent letters to the Revenue and Land Improvement Department for the same. Once the land transfer process is completed by the Revenue and Land Improvement Department, the foundation stone laying ceremony will take place.
Since the land in question belongs to the government, there is no need for land acquisition for the establishment of the medical college.
Inauguration Possible Before Lok Sabha Elections
Efforts are underway from the Health Department to inaugurate the medical college before the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The budget allocation for the establishment of the medical college in Ranchi has already been made for the current financial year.
In the budget for the financial year 2024-25, provisions will be made for this college as well. Apart from Ranchi, provisions for the establishment of a medical college were also made in Bokaro in the current financial year. Approval for the plan has been received in Bokaro, and the construction process is underway by the Building Construction Corporation for the establishment of the medical college.
Relief Expected for RIMS with Second Government Medical College
The establishment of another medical college and hospital in Ranchi will alleviate the burden on RIMS (Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences). This will be Ranchi’s second government medical college. Additionally, in the private sector, the Ajim Premji Foundation is establishing a medical college in Itki, Ranchi.
