Ranchi Municipal Corporation Unveils Innovative Measures to Curb Air Pollution

In a bid to tackle the city’s air pollution, Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is set to employ new technologies in the upcoming days. Under this initiative, smart parking will be developed using mobile apps and digital displays.

Control on Air Pollution

In addition to this, steps will be taken to reduce air pollution, including real-time monitoring of construction activities. During a recent meeting chaired by the Administrator of the Municipal Corporation, Amit Kumar, it was mentioned that although vehicles are available for this task, certification is pending from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL).

Directions for Proposal Preparation

Administrators have given directives to prepare proposals in this regard. Additionally, instructions have been issued to establish Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations (CAAQMS) at nine hotspots identified in the urban areas.

Installation of Mobile CAAQMS at 9 Hotspots

In the initial phase, mobile CAAQMS will be installed at the identified 9 hotspots. An amount of Rs. 12.49 crores will be spent on Ambient Air Quality. Ranchi Municipal Corporation will bear the cost of Rs. 12.49 crores for Ambient Air Quality.

Implementation Plan

Under this plan, at Morhabadi Campus, from State Guest House to Vending Zone-C, paving blocks will be laid at a cost of Rs. 1.12 crores. In Ashok Nagar Colony, Ward No. 43, various roads will have paving blocks installed at a cost of Rs. 2.45 crores. Additionally, other works including the construction of a cycle track in Morhabadi at a cost of Rs. 1.71 crores will be carried out.

Transition to Electric Vehicles

Furthermore, diesel vehicles will be converted to electric ones at a cost of Rs. 3.50 crores. Charging stations will also be set up. Tree plantation will be done at various locations in the city at a cost of Rs. 63 lakhs. Moreover, road widening and construction of bituminous roads will be undertaken on several routes.
