In a recent turn of events, the cost of LPG cylinders in Jharkhand has surged just before the festive season. Starting October 1, the price of a 14.2 kg domestic cylinder has climbed by Rs 25. Ranchi residents, unfortunately, are facing the brunt of this hike, now having to shell out Rs 925.50 for a single cylinder, marking the highest rate in the state. On the brighter side, Jamshedpur locals are relatively better off, paying Rs 943 for the same.

This price disparity can be attributed to various factors including transportation costs and local taxes, leading to varying rates across districts. According to the Indian Oil Corporation website, the prices in other districts stand at Rs 960 in Bokaro, Rs 960 in Dhanbad, and Rs 962 in Hazaribagh, among others.

This continuous surge in LPG prices since February has taken a toll on the common man’s budget, especially in the wake of the pandemic when many are already grappling with reduced incomes and salary cuts. Frustrated consumers are urging the government to step in, calling for tax reductions on LPG cylinders to ease the burden on households.
