Former Chief Minister and MLA Hemant Soren received a major blow from the Special Court on Thursday. The court dismissed a petition by the former Chief Minister and legislator Hemant Soren, in which he sought permission to attend the budget session. Hemant Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on January 31 in a land scam case and is currently in judicial custody at the Hotwar Jail in Ranchi.
Safe Decision After Hearing on Hemant Soren’s Petition
Hemant Soren’s petition was heard in the Special Court of the Enforcement Directorate, where it was informed that the budget session of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly is commencing from February 23. The session includes the passing of the Money Bill, which makes his presence necessary. However, the court refused to accept this argument and rejected his petition. The court also denied the plea of Hemant Soren’s lawyer. Prior to this, a petition filed by Hemant Soren was heard in the PMEL Court. After the completion of the hearing on Wednesday, the court had reserved its decision.
Presence in Money Bill Important for Budget Session
Hemant Soren’s senior advocate, Rajiv Ranjan, had argued on his behalf. He had informed the court that the Money Bill needs to be passed in the budget session, hence Hemant Soren’s presence is necessary.
Permission Granted to Participate in Special Session
In reality, the budget session of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly is commencing from February 23. This session, which will run until March 2, will present the supplementary budget for the current financial year in addition to the budget for the upcoming fiscal year, to be presented on March 27. Prior to this, Hemant Soren was granted permission to participate in the proceedings of the special session during the trust vote.
