The Government of Jharkhand has greenlit the elevation of BIT Sindri, the state’s oldest engineering college, to university status. Established in 1949, this move is strategically designed to elevate the standard of education and research at the institute.
Alongside the university status, the government has also given the nod for the establishment of a Faculty Development Academy at BIT Sindri. This academy is envisioned to play a crucial role in training and enhancing the skills of teachers across various engineering colleges in the state. The funding for the academy will be facilitated by the World Bank through the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP).
Hemant Soren, the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, made these announcements following a meeting with officials from the higher education department on Tuesday. He emphasized the rich legacy of BIT Sindri and its potential to emerge as a distinguished hub for engineering and technology.
Highlighting the importance of the Faculty Development Academy, Chief Minister Soren stressed its role in elevating the quality of teaching and learning within the technical education sector. Recognizing this as pivotal for the overall development of the state, he urged officials to expedite the processes of granting university status and establishing the academy at BIT Sindri.
