Babulal Marandi, a seasoned politician and former chief minister of Jharkhand, has taken the reins as the new state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This significant development comes as Deepak Prakash concludes his two-year tenure at the helm of the party. Marandi’s appointment was made by BJP national president JP Nadda, following extensive consultations with senior party leaders.
Marandi’s ascendancy to the role of state president is widely regarded as a strategic move to revitalize the BJP’s prospects in Jharkhand, a state where it faced defeat in the 2019 elections, losing power to the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led alliance. With his leadership, Marandi is expected to bridge the gap between tribal and non-tribal communities, which is crucial for the BJP’s electoral success in the region.
Having founded the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) (JVM-P) in 2006 after parting ways with the BJP due to differences with the central leadership, Marandi made a significant return to the party in 2020. Alongside his party MLAs, he merged his outfit with the saffron party, garnering praise from none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself, who hailed him as a true “son of the soil.”
Expressing his gratitude towards Nadda and Modi, Marandi humbly acknowledged the responsibility entrusted to him to lead the BJP in Jharkhand. He vowed to dedicate himself to strengthening the party at the grassroots level, while fostering inclusivity and democracy within its ranks. Marandi also expressed his appreciation for the contributions made by Deepak Prakash, extending a hand to seek his guidance and cooperation in the party’s future endeavors.
With Babulal Marandi at the helm, the BJP looks poised to embark on a new chapter in Jharkhand.
