Located approximately 15 kilometers from the town of Deoghar, on the route to Dumka at Trikut Basdiha in Mohanpur Block of Deoghar District, this spiritual haven boasts not one but three prominent peaks, earning its name “Trikutachal.”

Ascending the Peaks

With its highest point reaching an elevation of 2,470 feet, Trikut Hill offers a divine journey for visitors. The hill can be ascended through a mesmerizing rope way, which serves as a major tourist attraction, or for those seeking a more grounded experience, a staircase leads to the pinnacle. During the rainy season, the hill is veiled in clouds, revealing cascading waterfalls and glistening streams from July to September. The panoramic views from the hilltop encompass the breathtaking beauty of the region, with the added spectacle of solar panels from Tapovan, Jharkhand’s first solar energy hub.

Tapovan: A Spiritual Oasis

Just 10 kilometers from Trikut Hill lies Tapovan, renowned for the temple of Taponath Mahadev and Hanuman. This sacred site holds a special place in the hearts of pilgrims. Additionally, River Mayurakshi, originating from Trikut Hill, flows through several districts of West Bengal before joining River Hooghly.

A Tale of Divine Significance

Trikut Hill finds mention in the Hindu epic Ramayana, where it is associated with the devotion of Ravana, the King of Lanka. In his unwavering reverence for Lord Shiva, Ravana performed intense penance and sang hymns to please the deity. Impressed by his devotion, Shiva granted him a wish but with a condition – he would accompany Ravana to Lanka in the form of a Shiva linga. However, Ravana faced a dilemma during his journey as he needed to relieve himself. This pivotal moment led him to land on the top of Trikut Hill, known today as Ravana’s Helipad.

Desperate to fulfill Shiva’s condition, Ravana searched for anyone who could temporarily hold the linga. A young boy, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, agreed but with the stipulation that Ravana must return after three calls. Ravana, held back by the Ganges flowing within him, returned late only to find the linga rooted to the ground. In frustration, he punched the linga, further anchoring it, and departed. This legend gives rise to the name “Ravaneshwar Shivlinga” for the deity worshipped in Deoghar.

Three Peaks, One Experience

Trikut Hill features three peaks, each named after a Hindu deity: Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Among them, one peak opens its doors to tourists, offering a unique spiritual encounter.

Trikut Hill, with its spiritual significance and natural beauty, continues to be a beacon of devotion and tranquility in the heart of Jharkhand

On April 10, 2022, a devastating cable car collision shook Trikut Hill in Deoghar district, Jharkhand, India. The incident claimed the lives of at least three individuals, leaving several others injured. In a race against time, Army helicopters were deployed for swift rescue operations.

A total of 78 people found themselves trapped, with 28 fortunate enough to be rescued on the same day. The remaining passengers endured a harrowing ordeal, suspended in mid-air for up to 45 agonizing hours.

As investigations unfolded in April 2023, a startling revelation emerged. Tragically, one car plummeted, while the other 23 remained suspended. Additionally, the report uncovered a shocking 24 defects that had been neglected by the operator.

In response to the tragedy, the operator was initially compelled to provide ₹25 lakh in ex-gratia compensation to the families of the deceased. However, justice prevailed as the operator was later slapped with a hefty fine of ₹9 crore

Fast forward to August 2023, the Jharkhand Tourism Development Corporation took a significant step toward healing and restoration.
