Inaugural Women’s Asian Hockey Champions Trophy to Kick Off in Jharkhand
Hockey enthusiasts have reason to cheer as India is set to host the inaugural Women’s Asian Hockey Champions Trophy for the first time. The responsibility of hosting this prestigious tournament has been entrusted to Jharkhand. The championship is scheduled to take place from October 27th to November 5th, 2023.
The tournament will witness a clash between the Indian and Thai teams on the very first day. The Asia Hockey Federation unveiled the schedule on Saturday. The opening match on October 27th will feature Japan taking on Malaysia at 4 PM. India’s first match, against Thailand, is scheduled for 8:30 PM on the same day.
The Jharkhand government, in collaboration with Hockey Jharkhand, had earlier announced free entry for hockey enthusiasts. Four players from Jharkhand are also part of the Indian squad, including Nikki Pradhan, Salima Tete, Beauty Dungdung, and Sangeeta Kumari. All matches will be played at the Marang Gomke Astro Turf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi. The tournament features Asia’s top six teams, including India, Japan, China, Korea, Malaysia, and Thailand.
