In a significant move, the Jharkhand Education Department has issued a circular to all educational institutions in the state, mandating the implementation of the ‘One Nation One Student ID Card’ scheme‘. This pioneering initiative aims to assign a unique identification number to every student enrolled in schools and colleges across the nation.
Key Points of the Scheme:
- Comprehensive Student ID Card: The ID card will include essential details such as the student’s name, date of birth, gender, address, contact number, Aadhaar number, blood group, and other pertinent information.
- QR Code for Easy Access: Each ID card will feature a QR code, enabling convenient access to the student’s academic records, attendance, scholarships, and other benefits. This technological feature ensures swift and secure information retrieval.
- Digital Database Creation: The scheme’s primary objective is to establish a digital database of students. This database will streamline the delivery of various services and schemes, enhancing efficiency and accessibility.
- Combatting Duplication and Fraud: By providing a unique identification number, the scheme will significantly reduce instances of duplication, fraud, and corruption within the education sector. This step marks a critical stride towards integrity and transparency.
- Implementation Deadline: All educational institutions are directed to complete the ID card issuance process for their students by March 31, 2024. Additionally, institutions are instructed to regularly update their students’ data on the National Academic Depository (NAD) portal.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had announced the ‘One Nation One Student ID Card’ scheme in September 2021 as a part of the transformative National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
