Dr. Aarti Kumari, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fuel, Minerals, and Metallurgical Engineering at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad , has brought glory to the institution. She has been selected for the ‘IIM Young Engineers Award 2023-24’ in the division of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. This award will be presented at the 36th National Conference of Metallurgists and Materials Engineers on February 29, 2024, in West Bengal.
The IIM Young Engineers Award recognizes significant contributions in the respective field by the Institution of Engineers (India). It includes prestigious recognition and certificates.
Contributions as a Senior Scientist in Jamshedpur
Dr. Aarti is a researcher working on establishing sustainable earth utilization technology. She has also received the ‘Opportunity’ award from the Government of India’s Department of Science and Technology for her research on the recovery of rare earths from waste magnets in 2019. From 2019 to 2022, she worked as a senior scientist at the metallurgical laboratory in Jamshedpur.
Indian Institute of Technology: A Legacy Institution
The Indian Institute of Technology, located in the mineral-rich region of Dhanbad city, is the third oldest institute in India after IIT Roorkee and IIT (BHU) Varanasi, which has been converted into an IIT. It was established following the model of the Royal School of Mines, London, by the British Indian government. Its formal inauguration was done by the then Viceroy of India, Lord Irwin, on December 9, 1926.
Initially established to provide education in mining and mineral sciences, it has evolved into a technical institute with various academic departments today.
