Starting July 15, a new air service is set to bridge the gap between Chennai, India, and Jaffna, the capital of Sri Lanka’s Northern Province. Operated by Alliance Air, a subsidiary of Air India, these daily flights mark a significant milestone as the first direct connection between the two cities since the end of the civil war in Sri Lanka in 2009. With a flight duration of approximately one hour and 15 minutes, travelers can embark on this convenient journey for around Rs 12,000 for a round trip.

This air service holds the promise of bolstering trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges between India and Sri Lanka, particularly benefiting the Tamil community residing in both countries. The renewed connectivity opens up avenues for stronger people-to-people ties, facilitating economic growth and fostering a deeper understanding of each other’s cultures.

Travelers can look forward to experiencing the rich heritage and natural beauty of Jaffna, exploring its historic sites, vibrant markets, and pristine beaches. Likewise, residents of Jaffna will have easier access to Chennai, a bustling metropolis known for its thriving business opportunities, diverse culinary scene, and iconic landmarks.

The introduction of this air service signifies a positive step towards strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing regional connectivity. It is anticipated that this new flight route will contribute to the growth of tourism, promote business interactions, and facilitate greater cultural exchange between India and Sri Lanka.

As travelers embark on this exciting journey between Chennai and Jaffna, they have the opportunity to forge new connections, build lasting friendships, and create memorable experiences that transcend borders. This air service paves the way for a brighter future of collaboration and mutual understanding between the people of India and Sri Lanka.
