Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) President Shibu Soren has suspended Bishunpur MLA Chamra Linda from the party. He is contesting as an independent candidate from the Lohardaga parliamentary seat.
It is noteworthy that Chamra Linda, the JMM MLA from Bishunpur, rebelled against the party’s leadership by filing his nomination against the party’s wishes in Lohardaga on April 24. He decided to contest the elections independently from here.
Chamra’s move has angered the party, which warned that if he did not withdraw his nomination, action would be taken against him. However, Chamra remained firm in the electoral arena and did not withdraw his nomination. His stance further exacerbated the party’s concerns.
It should be noted that this seat has gone to the Congress under the sharing agreement, and Sukhdev Bhagat is contesting the elections as the candidate of the Mahagathbandhan. Chamra will compete against him for this seat.
Chamra Linda has previously contested elections on this seat and has a strong hold in this tribal-dominated region. He also has his own vote bank.
Chamra Linda has tried his luck on this seat in the Lok Sabha elections of 2004, 2009, and 2014. Although he lost all three times, he managed to garner over a lakh votes twice, thus showcasing his strength. In this scenario, his contesting from this seat could potentially harm the Congress party the most.
