Exciting news for technology enthusiasts and researchers! BIT Mesra in Ranchi, Jharkhand, is gearing up to establish a cutting-edge ‘5G Use Case Lab’ aimed at revolutionizing communication and connectivity through the internet. The initiative, announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the India Mobile Congress (IMC-2023) inaugural session, is set to be implemented by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) within the next 1.5 months.

This innovative lab is part of a nationwide effort, with 100 technical institutes chosen to host 5G use case labs. The primary goal is to bolster 5G technology for telecommunications while encouraging researchers to explore its technical capabilities and foster innovation.

The event witnessed the presence of Dr. Sanjay Kumar from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at BIT Mesra. A special video conferencing session took place at the GP Birla Auditorium of BIT Mesra, where key figures including VC Pro Dr. Indranil Manna, Dean PG Pro Nisha Gupta, Dean UG Pro VR Gupta, Head of Department ECE Pro SS Solanki, and representatives from the Department of Telecommunications, Vikash Kumar and Neelesh Kumar, engaged with over 200 enthusiastic students. The collaboration was made possible through joint efforts with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI).

The 5G use case lab will be a valuable resource for professors, researchers, and students interested in exploring communication and connectivity technologies. Dr. Gajendra Kant Mishra and Dr. Sanjeet Kumar, assistant professors in the ECE department, have been appointed as nodal officers for this groundbreaking lab. Dr. Gajendra highlighted that while 4G primarily focused on mobile-to-mobile connectivity, 5G aims to enhance connectivity among machines utilizing the internet. Dr. Sanjeet Kumar emphasized that the lab will facilitate research on innovative machines related to smart agriculture, home care, and medical technology, enabling accurate studies through internet connectivity. This initiative holds significant promise for the startup community, fostering a culture of technological advancement and creativity. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting endeavor!
