Bird flu has been confirmed in Ranchi. Samples from chickens in the regional poultry area of Hotwar, Ranchi, tested positive for H5N1 avian influenza. Following the confirmation of bird flu, the district administration has formed a Rapid Response Team (RRT) as part of an action plan. An order has been issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Ranchi, Rahul Kumar Sinha, to establish the Rapid Response Team. Veterinary officers and staff have been appointed in each team. These appointed officers and staff have been directed to work under the coordination of the District Veterinary Officer and Assistant Director, Poultry, Regional Poultry Area, Hotwar, Ranchi.
Under the action plan, the Rapid Response Team (RRT) will undertake culling of remaining chickens in the regional poultry area of Hotwar, Ranchi, using scientific methods. Subsequently, the infected area will undergo complete cleaning and disinfection using scientific methods.
As part of the action plan, a survey related to poultry farming within a one-kilometer radius of the infected area will be conducted to facilitate swift decision-making regarding culling at the administrative level. Additionally, the team will delineate the surveillance zone by mapping a 10-kilometer radius from the epicenter, ensuring intensive monitoring of avian influenza in this area.
The Rapid Response Team will conduct surveys in the following areas:
- Hotwar, Garhi Gaon, Garhi Hotwar, and Baken Toli.
- Khunti, New Khunti, Mahua Toli, and near the Army Camp area.
- Bandh Gaon, Dumardaga, JP Nagar, and near Booti Mod.
Restrictions have been imposed within a one-kilometer radius of the infected area as a precaution. Any trade or movement of live/dead chickens/chicken products and eggs within this radius of the regional poultry area of Hotwar, Ranchi (infected area) has been prohibited. Transport of these items will also be restricted until further notice.
